Long Answers

1. I think that this is not the best decision by the board because if they miss on error when checking the textbooks then thats wrong information that the students are learning and reading about. In order for students to do well on test and be able to improve their knowledge then they need to be taught the right information without a error to effect them. For the board to vote against this proposal is not the best idea because they are just throwing away and rejecting something that will help the students and make sure they are learning the right information.

2. I think that this is not acceptable at all because it teaches the students that they are just "worker" and that is a far different word then slaves. This is a error that could have been fix and is teaching students the wrong idea of the history. The error is unacceptable and it doesn't matter that it was just a  simple word that was change because that word itself had a whole background of use in history and the students should be able to learn the history without being mislead.

3. I think that the textbooks should be re-checked by expert instead of the board because experts have more information and experience and could be able to fix the errors better. Even in the board there are some other experts that doesn't mean they are experts in that exact field and could have missed some errors when re-checking the textbooks. Experts in the field should re-check the textbooks because then errors would be found better and could be fix so that students don't learn wrong information in the textbooks.

4. I think that my textbooks are accurate but I haven't read the whole textbook yet. I think that experts should re-ckeck the textbooks so that students don't learn the wrong information from errors. Students use textbooks to learn information and the information that we are learning and reading is suppose to be right so if there is a error then that could effect our knowledge on history. I think that in case of a error exports should re-check instead of the board an theses checking should have the correct information in order to find the errors better.

A columnist that I read on a regular basis is Dear Abby. I read Dear Abby because the person gives good advice and I could relate to some of the problems the people are asking the writer advice for and  I find that helpful. What keeps me going back to it is the response the Dear Abby writer gives to the person who needs advice because they are really honest about what they say.

1^st Commentary Article

   When a patient is diagnosed with cancer it doesn’t just have a effect on that one person but it has some if not an equal amount of devastation to the people around the patient. I have personal experience with the brutal long lasting aftermath of cancer considering both my parents were diagnosed with cancer when I was younger.

   I was only a baby when my mom got news that she had a type of Breast Cancer that could only be treated by radiation. This news came right after my aunts battle with the same type of cancer. This means my mom not only had to deal with a new born baby and a three year old but also deal with a life threatening disease. As time went on my mom pushed herself everyday till she went from a cancer warrior to a cancer survivor. Even though I was only a baby me and my brother both had to grow up with our mother going in and out of the hospital daily. Not having my parents around all the time as a child taught me how to grow up fast and become more independent and responsible at a young age.

     Four years ago when I was in 5^th grade and my older brother was in 8^th grade we got the painful news that our dad who was there by our moms side when she was going through cancer had been diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. There is no words to ever explain the type of pain that I felt at that moment after finding out that I might loses my best friend. I don’t think that any child should find out what the word cancer means at that young age. The feeling of helplessness overwhelmed me during my dad’s first chemotherapy treatment because I had to sit there everyday and see my dad so thin and his skin so yellow with sickness yet no matter how much I wanted to take his place and take his pain away I knew I couldn’t do anything.

   Ever since my dads first chemotherapy my brother and I have been going to a camp called Camp Kesem but this isn't just any type of camp, its a camp for children who parents have cancer. This camp was put on by a group of University of Texas students and it was for one week of summer away from our parents. My brother and I went to the camp when it first started. When we left for camp my dad was right in the middle of his first chemotherapy treatment which made me a little skeptical on leaving my parents but I did any way. To say the less this camp impacted my family life so much and made me realize I wasn't alone. 
     Before the camp I though that no one knew what I was going through but through this camp I was able to meet people who have been what I was going through and I met some of my best friends there. This was the first place where I saw my brother be open and smile without forcing it. I cry thinking back on how much I saw my brother be happy and I couldn't thank Camp Kesem enough for that. Camp Kesem gave me a place where I could be a kid again without worrying about the real world and cancer. I am so grateful for this camp because whenever someones parent gets diagnosed with cancer nobody realizes that it leaves such a impact on the child to and this camp shows the children that they have someone there for them to and that they aren't alone. What started as a camp with around 20 campers has grown to a camp that had over 100 campers the summer of 2015 and I'm proud to say my brother and I have attended every year of it. 
    Although one can never go back and change the effects and scars my family has experience with our journey with cancer I have the ability to reach out to other children and tell them that there not alone and that someone does care for them. Cancer is something that my family will always be battling but I have a support group behind me. I have met so many wonderful people to prove my point that cancer effects more than the patient and theses effects change us wether we like it or not but if it wasn't for cancer I wouldn't be the person I am today, I wouldn't have known what it feels like to have a family outside my house and I defiantly wouldn't know what it feels like to impact others lives.

1. From what I have learned in this class I think that this story is a little bit of a opinion story because even though the writer doesn't uses words like "I" he still hints at what he is trying to get across. This wouldn't really be a news story because its not all facts and is meant to make the reader think a little differently after reading. The writer uses the past and the future a lot in this story whenever he is telling us that this is what we grew up to know and this is what we do when we grow into the future.
2. The argument David Brooks was making in this story was that people now are choosing who they are going to be by choosing something that they can live without and isn't necessary to them. He brings across how people are getting things that are newer and throwing away items that are no longer considered useful or beautiful. People are defining their identity on stuff that are newer even if that stuffiest needed in their life.
3. The support he gave in the story to prove his point to was when he explained how when we are young we choose our identity by getting item but later on in our life we change or discover our identity throwing away the items that are no longer needed in our life anymore. This prove his point to me because it showed how people now are basing who they are on time stat they receive and are always trying to get the newer items to make things simpler when there not needed. Throughout the story he gave examples the get the point across earlier.
4. i think that article was labeled to the right because maybe the story on the left side has a totally different view of something and this way it balances the page out with two different thoughts. I also thing that maybe it is separation two totally different topic and different news paper writers. The title of the page being Balanced Views gave me the idea of two different opinions that balanced each other  out on the page.
5. The writer did convince me on his point because I think that people base their identity at a young age of something that they have. I think that people should realize at a young age that the only thing that should determine your identify is not any type of item but who you act and your personality should determine the person someone is. I also think that people in this generation base their worth and value on a object that ill probably have no part in their future path.

1. I have seen the video of the teen getting tossed. The video was really scary for me to watch because it was horrifying seining a student being treated like that. I saw it on the news with my family and we were all shocked.

2. After reading the story I think that this is such a horrible accident that happened that the officer deserved to get fired. I think that even though the teen refused to give up her cellular device the officer should of talk it out with the student instead of dragging the student out of the room. The officers actions were uncalled for and its a good thing that someone video taped the accident because it shows the audience the forced by the officer.
3. I do think that police brutality is a problem in this country because it causes people to look at the police differently and everybody has a different throughout and view on police brutality. Just because a officer uses force again someone it doesn't always mean police brutality because in some cases the officer uses the amount of force that is needed in the situation but in this cases I think that the officer used to much force against the teen.
4. I think that not every police brutality cases has racism behind it but other cases it might have it because it depends on who's involve and what had happened. I believe that people often associate police brutality with racism and even though they sometimes cross paths I real don't think that this is every case. For me to think that racism was involved in tis situation there has to be more evidence because racism is something that isn't as common as it use to be but there are few people who don't change but I don't think that racism was involved in this case with the student.
5. I think that social media and cell phones play big role in this issue because the video tape help show the actions taken by that officer and is important evidence to what had happened. I think that it was smart in this issue for someone to film what had happened because it was all over the news and made the audience have a bigger reaction than if it had to explained. i think that one of the best evidence someone can have other than a eye witness is a video tape because it shows what others might have missed.
6. I think that it is good that theses can kind of stores are exposed on social media because it draws more attention to that story and gives the public a view on what had happened. I believe that theses stores should be exposed to the public and social media because even if the stories are horrifying it show how real this accident is. I also think that the public has a right to know theses short of things because it shows more to something than just a police statement and it changes peoples point of view on the things around them.

1. What will help me decided on the topic I will be writing about is picking one that the reader finds parallels  between my experience and theirs.

2. One idea the author gave me that I will need to remember though out my writing is to make the emotions real to draw the reader in and to avoid using abstract expressions and phrases.
